A curved spout with a scroll tip and scroll decoration on the underside, near the body, balances the curved wooden handle. The teapot stands on a moulded splayed foot. There is a wooden inset in the finial which rests on top of the flush-hinged lid. On the shoulder of the pot and extending slightly onto the lid can be seen a fine example of Casey's skill at chasing. The design consists of scrolls and lines arranged in a decorative pattern. On the front of the pot, engraved in script, is the name "S. Gibbs." This engraving is for Sarah Gibbs of Newport. |
