Description
Mark: S : C A S EY, capitals with a colon, in a rectangle on the bottom
Engraved: I P A
Exhibited: Early American Silver from the Collection of Cornelius C. Moore; The Rhode Island Historical Society; Providence, Rhode Island; January 1961. Salve Regina College; Newport, Rhode Island; May 17, 1964.
Dimensions: H. 7 3/4" D. of top 4 1/4" D. of bottom 5 3/8" 29.1ozt.
This short, squat tankard exhibits much more simplification than Casey's other tankard in the Moore Collection. The body, with its straight, slightly tapering sides, rests on a moulded base. There is no finial on the stepped lid. A scroll thumbpiece raises the lid. The hollow, S-curved handle ends in a plain roundel. The lower portion of the handle is joined to the body by a round disk. The initials I P A, in block letters, are engraved just below a moulded piece of silver on the handle. |
