Mark: J . C O B U R N, capital letters with pellet, in rectangle on bottom <br/> Exhibited: Salve Regina College; Newport, Rhode Island; May 17, 1964; no. 138. The New England Silversmith; Museum of Art, Rhode Island School of Design; Providence, Rhode Island; October 23-November 28, 1965; no. 44. <br/> Dimensions: H. 4 7/16" L. 7" 10 ozt. <br/> This sauceboat is elliptical, with a deep body and scalloped rim. It has a wide everted pouring lip balanced by the freestanding handle opposite it. The open handle has an acanthus grip and is attached to the rim by an inner curved projection of an upper scroll and juncture of a lower scroll with the body. Coburn's sauceboat is supported by three scroll legs with shell body joinings and shell feet. |
