Description
Mark: I . B, capitals with a raised pellet, enclosed in a rectangle, appears three times under the rim, once near the center <br/> Engraved: E G, A Gift to William Gray <br/> Dimensions: H. 1 15/32" D. 11 1/4" 26.44 ozt. <br/> This salver captures the lively flavor of the Rococo period. The Dutch love of decoration can be seen in the border of shell-like forms. The shells are connected by three scrolls, each forming the outline of the tray. The three scroll legs with double-pad feet were placed under alternating shell forms. The flowered monogram, E G in script, is formed with interwoven branches. An inscription in early eighteenth-century script, "A Gift to William Gray," is found centered on the underside. |
