Mark: W:Cowell, upper- and lowercase script with colon between, in a cartouche, located on the bottom of the pot <br/> Engraved: H . S <br/> Exhibited: Newton College of the Sacred Heart; Newton, Massachusetts; March 10, 1963; no. 105. Salve Regina College; Newport, Rhode Island; May 17, 1964; no. 105. <br/> Dimensions: H. 3 13/16" D. 2 1/16" 2.75 ozt. <br/> This pepper box has an octagonal body with slightly tapering sides flaring at the base. A scroll handle with a slight grip above a long rat-tail is attached to the body. There are applied bands above and below the joinings of the handle to the body. Covering the body is a low domed, pierced cover with a single row of piercings on the stepped lid. On the bottom, the initials H . S are engraved in block letters. |
