Salve Regina College; Newport, Rhode Island; May 17, 1964; no. 107. <br/> Dimensions: H. 3 3/4" D. of bottom 2" 2.6 ozt. <br/> Jacob Hurd's octagonal pepper box has a low domed lid with six panels of alternating teardrop and circular piercings and is topped off with a bell finial. The base is a band of moulding which is repeated at the top part of the body. The middle is left plain. It has a thin S-shaped handle without a grip or terminal. It is engraved with a faint starlike design on a front panel of the main body which is standard practice for aligning the body and the lid to fit properly. |
