Panel discussion between Father Doyle, James Levesay, and Rabbi Plaut at the International Liberators Conference

The International Liberators Conference was held in Washington, D.C., in October, 1981, and sponsored by the United States Holocaust Council, a division of the United States Department of the Interior. The conference was the first of its kind to be held in honor of the liberators of the Nazi concentration camps. The two-day event brought together both the liberated and those who liberated them from the death camps. In the words of Elie Wiesel, the conference was meant "to bear witness to what we have seen and done." Organized by William B. Konar, a Niederhagen death camp survivor from Pittsford, NY, dozens of survivors and their liberators came from all over the world, including the former U.S.S.R., to tell their stories - Father Doyle's story is just one of many that were told that day.
