B U R T, capital letters with pellet, in rectangle on bottom <br/> Engraved: Atkins' crest <br/> Exhibited: Newton College of the Sacred Heart; Newton, Massachusetts; March 10, 1963; no. 110. Salve Regina College; Newport, Rhode Island; May 17, 1964; no. 110. Early American Silver from the Collection of Cornelius C. Moore; The Rhode Island Historical Society; Providence, Rhode Island; January 1961; no. 33. <br/> Dimensions: H. 5 1/2" D. of bottom 1 3/4" 2.955 ozt. <br/> The body of this caster resembles that of an elongated pear with a curved lower section. It has a moulded rim and rests on a splayed foot. The high domed pierced top is divided into six panels perforated in a pattern of criss-cross engraving. A pinecone finial terminates this caster. It is engraved with the Atkins' crest. Depicted is a double-headed animal, possibly a dog, on a torus, below the rim (Gebelein, November 10, 1952). |
