Mark: D R, capitals in a shaped punch, on the bottom <br/> Engraved: T H <br/> Exhibited: Newton College of the Sacred Heart; Newton, Massachusetts; March 10, 1963; no. 108. Salve Regina College; Newport, Rhode Island; May 17, 1964; no. 108. <br/> Dimensions: H. 4 1/16" D. 2" 2.635ozt. <br/> This octagonal caster has slightly tapering sides flaring at the bottom. It has hammered bands near the bottom and below the rim of the cover. The cover is engraved and pierced in shapes of drops, diamonds, and flowers and is topped by a finial. From a wider projection the rim of the top curves in to meet moulding on the body. A three-prong device is engraved on the lid near the rim and is repeated on the body to ensure correct placement of the cover. Engraved in block letters on the bottom are the initials T H for Thomas Hornsby of Newport. |
