Mark: TE, conjoined capitals, in rectangle in center of bottom <br/> Engraved: S M E <br/> Exhibited: The New England Silversmith; Museum of Art, Rhode Island School of Design; Providence, Rhode Island; October 23-November 28, 1965; no. 80; fig. 37. <br/> Dimensions: H. 5 1/8" D. of bottom 1 5/8" 3.805 ozt. <br/> Thomas Edwards' caster exemplifies the type popular during mid-century. It is vase-shaped on a moulded splayed foot. The top is slightly domed and divided into six panels, three with a criss-cross pattern alternating with three of a foliated-and-scroll design. A turned finial tops off the lid. S M E is engraved in a triangle of block letters inside of the foot. The weight is scratched near the maker's mark: oz./4.8. |
