Mark: J.Otis, script in a rectangular punch, on top of the cover next to the finial and on the body left of the handle <br/> Engraved: Z P M <br/> Exhibited: Newton College of the Sacred Heart; Newton, Massachusetts; March 10, 1963; no. 80. Salve Regina College; Newport, Rhode Island; May 17, 1964; no. 80. <br/> Dimensions: H. 8 9/16" D. of top 4 1/16" D. of bottom 4 17/32" 30.455 ozt. <br/> This Otis tankard is characterized by tapering sides, a stepped domed cover with finial, and a moulded baseband. It has a scroll thumbpiece and flat, shaped moulding below the hinge on the outside curve of the handle. A circular body drop and an oval disk at the handle joining were used. The handle tip on this tankard is a George III shilling. Z P M is engraved with block letters on the handle. |
