These cups are characterized by a bell-shaped body, moulded splayed foot, and scroll handle with midrib on top. A cylindrical drop is used where the handle top joins the body. On one of these cups the scroll device terminating the handle has broken off. There is a cup by John Coddington on display at RISD Museum in Providence. It has the same type of handle and base, but the body is jug-shaped and decorated with gadrooning and punching. Each cup in the Moore Collection is engraved MD on the front with block letters. |
